Australian = China ?!?!? Censorship Firewall

Recommended Posts

Dodgy Government

In a move that seems to be happening without comment from the Australian media, the Australian government is introducing a censorship regime ostensibly targeted at stopping teenagers accessing online porn.

But rather than being an opt-in system, it's "opt-out". I use the scare quotes because, and this is most insidious part, you can't actually opt out - you can merely be placed on a alternative blacklist which, instead of blocking "content innappropriate for children", block any material deemed to be illegal.

Ummm... so. Rebellion anyone? Why do we still let the Government take our rights as an Aussie citizens, is it an idea to have a bill of rights for Australia. Even New Zealand has one!

it applies to everyone... and you cant get out of it. There's the possibility that the firewall will block any website related to controversial opinions on euthanasia, drugs or political dissent. Even legal content might get screwed with because the firewall wont be able to dissect what is 'Good' or 'bad'. Its also going to be controlled by the state, and it will be inaccurate.

It will slow the internet traffic speed down aswell.

I doubt that this will happen... there will be too much of an uproar.

Probably will end up with Myspace & Facebook blocked aswell...

How can we stop this from happening?

We Need Fire.... Lots & LOTS of Fire...

Last thing the government wants is facebook being blocked. How will Kevin Rudd and his tech savvy MP's appear cool to the younger generation?

conroy knows shit about how the internet actually works, he's just doing this as a publicity stunt.

the government offers filtering software free already, if people don't want their children looking at porn, then they should monitor their internet habits themselves. the government is not a baby sitter.

it would be impossible to filter out all porn sites, and then there are other avenues to get porn (ie torrents, newsgroups, rapidshare, etc), or just using an external proxy. simply it is a waste of money and is just going to inconvenience people

99% of the world's problems can be solved through the education system.

Everyone is happy treating symptoms, never the cause...

its already being trialled on an ISP in tasmania, and they are dead serious abbout it.

Apparently the "fallback" plan is to target things like online "how to make drugs, bombs" sites, and child porn etc.

what happened to the good old days of the parents being responsible for bringing up their kids?

f**k sakes, u dont want ur kid watching porn, put one of the million programs available on the computer which block that kind of shit, or even just monitor their internet access.

Ha ha wish I was a spy I would have more money. Man this sucks the big one. Once the gov. get's it's claws in something it is neverending.

Does it not amaze anyone that they can stop me looking at something I am legaly alowed to if I wish, just because people are too f###in lazy to watch their kids and yet they could save the country MILLIONS of dollars by making the ISP's filter viruses out of the system (and sending a virus IS illegal) and yet they do bugger all about that!

Perhaps they could actually work out you can get porn on the mobile they don't mind that I guess lot's of money for telstra there ( and it is advertised on the tele FFS) or making mobile companies inform you when your account is running up hundreds of dollars in fees fine to get ripped off I supose, oh if only they would do stuff to belefit the majority instead of the zelot minority. Too much to ask I guess.

No wonder the country is going down the toilet.

Hey they could call it art I supose, after all you can go to a gallery and view kiddie porn AND the "artist" can even troll through the school playground to find his/her "victims" oops or is that subjects.
