Can't help with the dimensions, sorry. You looking at doing an engine conversion?

yer man, into a 180sx...just weighing up options atm!
planning on importing a track only 180sx in the near future & was toying with the idea of a 2j conversion, but im wanting to keep weight to a minimum...so im starting to think it'd prob be best to stick with the dirty sr as much as i'd luv a 2j in there :(

It would be a great conversion, if ur just after drag, but the 2jz is a heavy motor and will wreck the weight distribution of the car.

If i were u, i would be heading towards a 1u or 1j with a r154 box (or w58 if u dont want more then 300rwkw)

1JZ with T28's in the standard CT12B housings should see you in the 300rwkw mark. I've seen a 1J do 340rwkw with the right ancillaries. GCG do the conversion, but be warned: it won't be cheap. Plus side is you won't need to touch the manifold unless you want to improve flow and get it extrude honed, etc.

You also have the option of HKS T3G's which are good for 300rwkw. A decent second hand kit can fetch up to 3k.

You also have the option of single turboing it. There you can use whatever turbo you want.

does putting T28's in the standard CT12B housings really make that much difference? and is their much custom work needed to make that swap? cause its not gonna cost much to purchase 2 working T28's. sounds like a really good modification if u can hit 300kw with them as turbos. ball bearing or brush bearing?

Ball Bearing. GCG do it but it's not cheap (roughly 2k per turbo) as there'd be quite a bit of custom work involved I'd imagine.

It's a straight swap as it utilizes the stock turbo housings, however you'd probably want to do some work to the stock manifold and other parts to really get the most out of the turbos. A fella hit 340rwkw on a 1JZ-GTE running the right ancillaries.

When whould you see full boost with twin T28's on a 1J?

In GTR circles T28BB (GT2560R's) are known as lag masters.

Twin t28bb would see u hit boost at approximatley 3k at a guess. Give or take if u hone the standard manifold and if your using adjustable cam gears. Go single man im doing my 1j to a garrett non bb for about 2200.

Big single is the way to go mate.
And for the torque benefits combined with the ease of power i would (personally) go with a 2j. Dont do things in halves! ;)

Looking at my engine a 2JZ dimension are 27" long x 11"s wide x 24.5" tall. These were block dimensions not including turbo and manifolds.

You will have fun with this conversion. Especially getting it to fit in a good spot in the engine bay. You'll be looking at a lot of custom work, engine mounts, gear box mounts and tails shaft for starters. Although I never did the conversion in my S15 I can see quite a lot of time and effort was put into the build.

Engine placement is crucial. I have found (from when my clutch had to get rebuilt) that the motor and gearbox were put into the car together and the bolts for the gearbox, when the gearbox was being removed the fouled on the firewall, even with the engine angled down off the engine mount.s So motor had to come out, all for a clutch rebuild.

So if you are going to do this make sure the gearbox bolts have full travel out of the threads...

Edit: Just had a look at the sump and it sits about 1mm aft from the sway bar so motor cant go anymore forward, so maybe consider a custom made sway bar if you want to get the box bolt full travel...

I have found the car to handle pretty well considering it still uses stock suspension but could benefit from some decent spring and shock set up.

With the 2JZ and r154 box set up, you'll be looking at a custom clutch set-up as there are no of the shelf items that will suit. I use what I believe is a OS Giken Super Single 6 puk clutch. But then again if you have the cash go the V160 gearbox which is the supra getrag 6 speed.

PM if you want and id be able to send you some photos of the engine and gearbox mounts or any other info I can help you out with...
